Those who know me know that I’m always looking for any excuse to visit L.A. And what could be a better one than IMATS? Ahhh, makeup and the City of Angels…two of my favorite things! This past Sunday was my first time attending this massive event, and I was so excited to finally partake in the makeup madness!
Firstly, for those who aren’t familiar with IMATS: it’s short for ‘International Makeup Artist Trade Show’. It’s a huge convention that’s produced by Michael Key, publisher of Makeup Artist Magazine and Emmy Award-winning MUA. IMATS tours several cities, with the event lineup spanning a total of 2-3 days. Attendees can look forward to a day(s) full of panel discussions led by highly acclaimed industry professionals, live demonstrations of makeup applications, visits to vendor booths, and so much more.
Some notable brands in attendance were: Inglot, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Sigma, and Morphe.
From what I experienced, IMATS definitely lived up to the hype. At an event of this magnitude, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, but I was totally in my element (and glamlusted the. entire. time.) I ended up running into several of my favorite artists and beauty bloggers, and got to chat with them for a bit! And, of course, I couldn’t leave without picking up some new products from a few of the booths! (I foresee product reviews in the near future :D)
However, I regret not being able to catch as many of the panel discussions as I would have liked :( between standing in lines and just wandering around, exploring the convention, I was only able to attend one talk. This particular one was led by Key Makeup Artist, DeShawn Hatcher, author of “Assisting Rules”, a “how-to” on assisting a key makeup artist on set. I absolutely loved DeShawn’s panel. She was so personable and had great energy – I learned a ton.
All in all, I truly enjoyed myself; it’s really motivating & inspiring to be surrounded by like-minded people! I already am looking forward to next year!!
Until next time…stay glamorous! xo
